Broughton, MNZM and ONZM, left an unparalleled record in New Zealand's elite domestic competitions and became an icon of Southland netball. The 80-year-old died after a recent illness. The wily operator put Invercargill on the map during her long tenure with the Southern Sting where netball became a top flight sport. Broughton was head coach of the Sting from 1998-2007, winning a record seven Coca Cola/National Bank Cup titles during that time while being the only coach to lead a team for all 10 seasons of both those competitions. She led the Sting for 100 matches, returning an impressive 82 percent win record which was 14 percent better than any other coach while achieving 47 more wins. With the introduction of the trans-Tasman league in 2008, Broughton took over as coach ...

Nick Bosa's huge new contract provides foundation for next wave of 49ers stars SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- From the moment the San Francisco 49ers used the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft on him, defensive end Nick Bosa has been one of the franchise's most important players. In the more than four years since, the only thing that's changed is that Bosa has somehow managed to become even  more  important to the Niners' success. Any remaining doubt about just how much Bosa means to the 49ers vanished Wednesday, when he agreed to a five-year, $170 million contract that includes $122.5 million in guarantees, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The deal makes Bosa the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. Getting Bosa back in the fold following a 43-day holdout that lasted longer than many expected was imperative for the 2023 49ers. Bosa is the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and there's a strong argument that he's the p...
